Logos and graphics

Whilst I would primarily consider myself to be a developer rather than a designer, I have done the odd bit of design work here and there that I’m quite proud of. Here are a few of them.

Drone

This project might actually go ahead but is not live yet so I thought I’d include the logo here for now.

YHEDT are in the process of buying an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) which would allow them to sell aerial photography services. As the trust is primarily interested in ecology the logo is meant to be evocative of a bee.

Rush

Sadly I don’t know if Rush was ever built. The idea was a mixture of speed-dating and pub-crawling so someone may have thought better of it. Our idea for the site was a Lichtenstein style comic with thought bubbles for the relatively sparse content.

The furrowed brow

The furrowed brow was a fore-runner idea before I settled on lunarfish but I thought it was a bit overly dark.

Jean’s site has moved to a new design and new designer now but I still like the original graphics I did for her.

Primary Poems (extra credit)

Again this is a work in progress rather than a shelved idea. I’m still hoping to get these bits of Primary Poems live at some point. The idea of Primary Poems is to help primary school teachers to teach poetry so I’m working on some tools which will allow us to highlight the structure of the poem like rhyming patterns and examples of poetic tools like running metaphors and alliteration and assonance.

Opposite Leg

Opposite Leg is a company who provide training in public speaking and presentation skills. We couldn’t quite get a version of this logo that really worked but I still like the idea both in terms of the look of the shadowed paper and the notion of the one paper man out of sync with all the others.

Mooch

Mooch

Mooch has been rescued from an earlier incarnation of my Lunarfish website. She’s an animated gif and was intended to go with a slightly cynical, world-weary thought for the day. Good animations are a brilliant tool but they can sometimes be overbearing and distract from the content. One of the ideas I like is for a site to be animated in a subtle way that you might not notice at first.
